Wireless power solutions to the world
Dan Riccio, Senior Vice President, Hardware Engineering at Apple
PowerbyProxi started as a spin out project from the University of Auckland’s Engineering School to develop wireless charging solutions for mobile phone users.
CHARGING AHEAD
In the span of a decade, PowerbyProxi transformed into a world leading wireless power solutions business that was snapped up by Apple as it pursues its quest for wireless charging solutions across consumer and industry markets.
CONNECTING EARLY
Tailorspace invested alongside key strategic partners in the early days of PowerbyProxi. Joining Samsung and TE Connectivity, the early capitalisation allowed for commercialisation of the business, filing of patents and licensing products. Development focus included consumer and industrial applications.
AN APPLE A DAY
In October 2017 Apple announced its 100% acquisition of PowerbyProxi. Tailorspace exited the business at this time. For the foreseeable future, Apple plans to keep the business in New Zealand because of the country’s status as an innovative leader in the wireless charging technology space.
